Visit The Dean

Dressing like a Crooner It has been a long time since the classic styles have been as popular as they are today. A lot of this change can be attributed to the popularity of television shows set in the hay day of the Rat pack, hen Frankie, Dean and Sammy were sipping scotch and singing the classics as poker chips clicked across the tables. Have you ever wondered how the Rat Pack boys were able to dress so simply yet look so iconic? What made them stand out in a room of other men in classic suits and classy hats? There is a subtlety to their style that you may not pick up on. Many people look at a suit as just s suit, but the way you wear it is more important than any single piece of clothing can ever be. If two men of similar stature wear the same exact suit then they are going to look similar. If one decides to loosen his tie, tilt his hat back into a more relaxed position and open up his suit jacket then he is going to appear more casual and stand out in a room of men wearing very similar, well-tailored suits. Take a look at the old footage. The Rat Pack stood out because they were having fun and, by the standards of the time, were very relaxed in their dress and demeanor. Today, the tables have turned. As the accepted level of dress has become more and more casual, with some people even appearing in public in sleep wear, those who stand out are the ones who dress sharply and with a sense of classic style. You don’t need to don a tuxedo every time you step out the door. In fact, I suggest against it. To stand out today, you need to be the person not wearing jeans and a t-shirt. Get some dress slacks, a nice button-up shirt and a matching tie. Top it off with a well shined pair of dress shoes and you will feel like a million bucks and get all the glances even if you aren’t raking in the poker chips at the tables. Throw a suit jacket and a hat on that, then order a scotch and learn to relax and be comfortable while wearing a suit. That comfort is what makes the difference. |
